Nontraditional Careers Curriculum

The Think Outside the Box: Nontraditional Career Exploration student-focused curriculum is interactive, engaging, and designed to excite students with the possibilities of nontraditional Career and Technical Education Careers. Students will explore work values, assess career interests, and challenge gender norms related to careers. The teacher-guided digital curriculum package consists of four modular student activities, utilizing a workbook and video guides.

Utilizing the adapted Head, Heart, Hands Rubric, this session provides innovative strategies and actionable insights to create engaging and supportive learning environments, emphasizing equity under Perkins V.

The session will cover essential practices such as enhancing recruitment communications, leveraging role models, issuing personal invitations, and creating engaging exploration experiences. Additionally, a brief introduction to the DRIVE method will illustrate how data-driven analysis can support effective recruitment planning.

The session covers detailed steps of the DRIVE process — from data collection to evaluation — enabling educators to develop actionable strategies for creating more inclusive CTE environments.

Barriers and Root Causes to Access & Success in CTE & STEM

Objective

To provide CTE and STEM educators with a deep understanding of the barriers and root causes affecting access and success for special populations, utilizing the 4-I model of Oppression as a framework for analysis and discussion.

Abstract

This workshop delves into the systemic barriers that deter special populations from participating and persisting in CTE and STEM pathways. Utilizing the 4-I model (Ideological, Interpersonal, Institutional, and Internalized), participants will identify and analyze the complex interplay of factors that contribute to inequities in educational and career opportunities. Through guided case studies and group discussions, educators will learn how to recognize and address these root causes within their own institutions.
