Program Structure and Features

The program revolved around four comprehensive virtual workshops, supplemented by ongoing interactive content on the Engineer Inclusion Network (EIN). Each week, participants explored key aspects of educational equity, beginning with the importance of disaggregated data in identifying equity gaps and progressing through advanced topics such as root cause analysis and continuous improvement strategies.

Key components of the program included:

  • Personalized Coaching: Participants had unlimited access to one-on-one or small group coaching with Dr. Meagan Pollock, enhancing their personalized learning experience.
  • Project-Based Learning: Encouraged to focus their learning on specific projects, participants applied concepts in real-world settings, ensuring practical understanding and implementation.
  • Empathic and Continuous Improvement Models: The final workshop introduced models that blended empathic design with process improvement methodologies, equipping leaders with tools to enact sustained changes.

Impact and Outcomes

This training program was not only about imparting knowledge but also about transforming practices. Participants gained critical insights into how to analyze and address the root causes of barriers in CTE and STEM education. Based on pre-post survey data analyzed by an external evaluator, the program was instrumental in:

  • Enhancing Analytical Skills: Educators became adept at conducting equity analyses using disaggregated data, a crucial skill in identifying and addressing educational gaps.
  • Improving Systemic Understanding: Through exercises like the 4-I’s of Oppression and Root Cause Analysis, participants deepened their understanding of systemic barriers, which is vital for developing effective solutions.
  • Driving Actionable Change: The focus on continuous improvement empowered participants to implement and sustain changes that enhance inclusivity in educational settings.

Participant Engagement and Feedback

The success of this program was reflected in the high level of participant engagement and the positive feedback received. Educators appreciated the structured yet flexible learning environment and the opportunity to engage deeply with both the content and their peers. The proactive participation in discussions and project work demonstrated the program’s effectiveness in motivating and empowering educational leaders.

Conclusion

Building Leadership Capacity to Grow Nontraditional Pathways exemplified a successful approach to professional development in educational equity. By combining expert-led workshops with hands-on projects and personalized coaching, the program effectively built leaders’ capacities to foster change and promote inclusivity in nontraditional pathways. The positive outcomes and testimonials from this program underscore its value as a model for future training initiatives aimed at enhancing educational equity.
