Active Listening: Shifting from Kindness to Empathy

Active listening is a bridge that can help us shift from kindness to empathy. In this post, we share a recorded workshop that can help you learn how.

Empathy is the ability to understand and share another’s feelings. This powerful skill can bring together even the most diametrically opposed people, making others feel valued and included. On September 9th, I led a one-hour workshop on how to shift from kindness to empathy through active listening. If you are interested in reexamining the power of the “Golden Rule” and equipping yourself with practical strategies to improve how you listen, I encourage to add the webinar to your playlist.

What is the difference between kindness and empathy?

Kindness and empathy are different, and both are valuable practices. In this brief animation, we share the definitions of kindness and empathy, outline the four qualities of empathy, and describe why we must practice empathy.

When we listen, we are more likely to learn about others’ experiences and increase our understanding of the need for equity and justice. In this post, I channel Wonder Woman as an inspiration for using our power for good, listening to others’ needs, and being brave and courageous in taking bold steps toward change.
